Day Trips from Corte Madera

Corte Madera is located in Marin County in stunning Northern California. As one of the most desirable towns to live in the state, Corte Madera is a small town with great shopping, distinguished public schools and close-knit community. But one of the best things about the town is how close it is to other areas worth visiting.

If you want to get away for the day, San Francisco, Berkeley, San Mateo and Sonoma are close enough for fun day trips, which are less expensive than overnight trips and much more convenient. With these cities so close, you are able to enjoy the benefits of a small town and the perks of a city.

If you love city culture, historical sites, great seafood and fine art, San Francisco is a must visit. In the city, you can head to Fisherman’s Wharf and catch a street show with local entertainer, or you can grab a sourdough bread bowl with fresh clam chowder. Stroll along Pier 39 and take in the bay and check out the many boutiques and shops around the city. San Francisco is home to the famous steep and crooked Lombard Street, as well as Chinatown and The Palace of Fine Arts. Make sure you see the city at night before you leave. You can grab some hot cocoa and explore the Exploratorium near the Palace and check out the dramatic lights.

Berkeley is only 18 miles east of Corte Madera across the San Rafael Bay. This city presents many options for activities, from the Botanical Garden and Indian Rock Park to the Greek Theater and Municipal Rose Garden. There are art museums and many cultural activities, including the ones hosted by UC Berkeley. If you’re in need of some art and culture and beautiful gardens, Berkeley is a terrific option for a day trip.

Only 30 miles north of Corte Madera is the beautiful and famous Sonoma Valley, known for its impressive wine industry. Whether you go and stroll along Sonoma Creek, visit the wineries or ride the Sonoma TrainTown Railroad with your children, you will have fun and enjoy the beautiful scenery. This region also holds many festivals throughout the year that can be fun for the entire family. There is the Olive Festival, which is held during January and February and celebrates everything having to do with the olive, including olive-tasting events, olive-oil making presentations and olive-scrub spa days.

The drive from Corte Madera to San Mateo is only 33 miles, making this day trip a terrific opportunity for you and the kids. With the County Fair, the Maker Faire, CuriOdyssey, San Francisco Aloha Festival and Peninsula Ballet Theater all taking place in this town, you are sure to have a fun time. Learn and explore at Maker Faire or CuriOdyssey, both of which present plenty of learning opportunities for you and your children to delve into science and nature. You can even do a little shopping! With all these festivals taking place in San Mateo, this town is one of the best day trips to take, providing activities, culture and unique opportunities you won’t find anywhere else.
